On tipping: I almost never tip, coming in from a country where 10% is minimum. I've been living here for 2 years and the service here is TERRIBLE. As I say to friends that visit - they don't expect tips, so they give you shit service, so you don't tip them, it's a cycle.
I totally love that Merkel paid voluntary rent. I paid voluntary tax in the UK for a year when I was working for a Danish company and not getting any tax from either country, but getting free healthcare from the UK.
