When we launched our newsletter in 2021 that number was just 20% — hence the name.

Every Tuesday and Friday, we send out a curated, witty summary of the most important political, business and cultural news plus selected culture/entertainment tips. Every edition ends with an interesting factoid about the German capital.

We record a 40-minute podcast every two weeks.

Our story

20 Percent Berlin was founded in August 2021 and is written by veteran journalists Andrew Bulkeley (Berliner Zeitung, Bloomberg, FT Marketwatch, a popular stand-up comedian) and Maurice Frank (Deutsche Welle, Berliner Zeitung, co-founder Exberliner)

It’s free to subscribe but more than 350 superfans voluntarily support us on Patreon or Substack.

As of May 2025 we have about 11,000+ subscribers. Our average open rate is 60%, far higher than the industry average. Thanks to shares, each edition is read by 12,000-15,000 people. Our mailing list continues to grow steadily.
