Hi Maurice,

Thank you for sharing the Volt event - love seeing expact communities getring active in politics, will definitely join. Just thought that I could introduce a project I co-founded as a grassroot initiative.

Water4All makes Berlin public drinking fountains easier to find and use. Berlin has ~238 fountains, but fewer than 40 are visible on Google Maps, so we built an open Water Map and database to fix that.

https://www.water4all.com.de/en/map

We also put together a practical advocacy guide based on our experience working with public authorities. It walks people through concrete steps to request new fountains — including submissions to Berliner Wasserbetriebe, Einwohneranfragen to district assemblies (BVV), and parliamentary “Kleine Anfragen” via representatives.

If it fits your audience, we’d love if you could share it in a future issue.

Thanks again!

The one on our playground is, in typical Berlin form, already needing repair.

"BER aiport only offers direct flights to eight long-haul destinations: New York, Montreal, Toronto (go Canada!), Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Beijing."

This list is pretty surprising! Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi make sense to me but I had no idea that Canadian, Saudi and Chinese carriers were offering direct flights to Berlin.

A Berlin New-York round-trip by plane emits 1.5 to 2 tonnes of CO2 per person. The German government per-capita target for 2050 is 1.7 tonnes per year.

Meaning you'd do a round trip and even taking into account technological improvements (flying is already pretty optimized), you'd have blown through your budget for the year.

It's absurd for government officials to be talking about developing this mode of transport. The people ache for cheap electric trains!

Here we go again with another CO2 police officer

Good luck with the heat waves

Cheap electric train from Berlin to New York? 😅

I think they call them boats

I think you must have a lot of free time if you plan to take a 7 nights boat to get there

Lufthansa says there’s not enough demand for direct intercontinental flights from Berlin

Yeah highly doubt this. For example, just considering the number of Indians that have moved to Berlin in the last few years. That should be enough demand to consider a direct long haul flight to Delhi / Mumbai.

It’s a dream to have a direct flight from Berlin to São Paulo. Years ago, a guy from Visit Berlin told me they were working on it, but it never happened. 😓

I don’t know why the state always provides these bonuses you have to apply for. Surely it saves a lot of administrative overhead if they would just support income tax rebates, no? Then they don’t have to cap any funds.

Then again, they probably do it this way because they don’t want to deal with auditing and people trying to cheat the system.
