I wonder how the property tax changes affect Kleingärten? I assume that their land is ‘less worthy,’ which touches on a particular unfairness of this tax change: supposedly it is precisely the institutions that are being taxed which give the area its value in the first place.

What is going on with that video?? Is that seriously the statue, or is it some weird parody? Sorry, my German still isn't strong enough to penetrate this. If it's seriously CDU, they are really leaning into the Hitler imagery to try to challenge the AFD? But they are voting with them even this week?

The statue was produced by a leftwing activist group called Zentrum für Politische Schönheit. They it the statue in from of the CDU HQ to remind them that Lübcke, a former CDU politician with a pro-immigration stance, was assassinated by a far-right AfD supporter. It's supposed to warn the CDU of cooperating with the AfD.

So what? What someone knew I worked in one of the malls that have a camera or at the airport police? How is that different, it's a public space and should be monitored

Why would you want to move across Mitte anonymously unless you're doing something wrong? It's one of the most crowded areas in Berlin and no one cares about an individual except if they raise suspicions imo

There are two big problems with this kind of thing, which is why it is banned in the EU's AI Act, incidentally, so bizarre to be happening right here in Berlin. Anyway, the problems are: if you use automatic face recognition, you can create records for people whether or not they've done anything, and you're more likely to make an error and make a record for the wrong person if they are from a minority (that's how AI works, it's better where there's more data == majority) 2) you may think you are doing nothing wrong, and the present government may think you are doing nothing wrong, but what if a future government decides to look for people who cut their hair like you do? Cf. the US right now, where people are being arrested for their race which was inconceivable earlier.

What if somebody who knew you worked in the police? Or knew somebody who worked at the police?

What constitutes “doing something wrong” can be defined very vaguely by German police, as recent cases of police abuse of power have shown. Even if this does not affect you now, there is no guarantee it will not become a problem in the future, when a different cause or context arises. When the state is enabled for abuse of it's power, it's only a matter of time when it will be leveraged.
