From my personal experience: I lived about 5 km away from a 24/7 airport for 9 years. The planes were coming down to land right above. The first time I actually noticed them was when I was going to sell the apartment and the prospective buyers were worried about the noise. And it’s not that I’m deaf. In Berlin, I have to sleep with earplugs because of the pigeons cooing. Can I start a petition to forbid cooing before 6 am?

Btw, streaming also has dubbed movies. And (I’m sorry) I watch the movies and series with English dub if I don’t know the original language. Of course at 41 I’m not that young…

Pigeons louder than planes. Wow. BTW, that's not old.

When I lived in Boston, they ran cars around when they did street cleaning at 5am or something to tell you to move your car, using a PA. At some point my 2 housemates and I started talking about it -- the two of us from the suburbs hated it, the one frm NYC had never heard it, but was annoyed by the animal noises (cat and racoon fights / mating IDK) which the two of us from suburbia had never heard.

It takes a while to get the hang of subtitles. We got it a lot at College and I thought it was annoying, but then I got good at it and now I MASSIVELY prefer hearing the original actors, but reading. The funny thing was the first time I saw an English movie subtitled, it took me 15-20 minutes to stop trying to read a language I didn't know and listen to more than emotion and performances! It really automates at some point. But now I don't mind German subtitles on English language films.
