Growing up in Tacoma and Seattle, I think the bike infrastucture around here is great. It's kind of like public transit, really. Everyone complains about it; but, since we don't have any where I come from, I think it's pretty cool. Even if I get all kinds of argro when riding my bike. I swear, everytime I start out I say to myself, "we're just going to take it easy, get there when we get there, and it doesn't matter if we miss a few lights." And then I hulk out at people fucking around on their phones when they should be paying attention to the road, or the escooter crowd. Still, I do appreciate what we have; and I don't miss being forced to own a car. My commute to work in Seattle was awful; what would take 20 to 30 minutes in no traffic would take an hour and a half in rush hour. I do not miss that one bit.
Crow's Pajamas: Dussmann
I love the Hell out of Dussmann. I usually order all my books and stuff through them, and request them for pick-up. It kind of reminds me of Powell's in Portland, but for new books. And it can be super dangerous too. Many times have I gone into Dussmann and came out significantly poorer. They're open till midnight over the weekend and it's just three floors of awesome. I wrote about it in a piece about bookstores in Berlin last November for the Wahlheymat Post. As a side note, the Wahlheymat Post has now given me my own column: The Intentional Berliner. So, that's cool. But, back to Dussmann, if you haven't been you should check it out. They also have a large English section, if you can't read German yet. And, as a little bit of extra Pajamas, if you go to Dussmann, you should hit up the sushi restaurant around the corner: Ishin Mittelstraße. It's the most authentic Japanese sushi place I've been to in Berlin. Very good!
